First Belgian World Peace Flame

The World Peace Flame Riemst is part of the international World Peace Flame network. The story of this network began on 31 July 1999 in Wales, where seven flames from five continents were joined together to create an eighth flame: the World Peace Flame. Since then, new flames have regularly been ignited throughout the world.

On 29 April 2012, the first World Peace Flame in Belgium was ignited on the Vroenhoven Bridge. The eternal flame shines in a 2-meter high glass monument. It is a unique symbol of peace in this historical place. After all, this bridge is where the Second World War started for Belgium on 10 May 1940.
